Online access and local compliance are separate

A family in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Doha or another Gulf city may be able to access an overseas programme online. That does not make the provider a locally licensed school, and it does not automatically settle compulsory-education, enrolment, equivalency or visa-related requirements.

Official rules also differ. The UAE government describes a specific home-schooling stream within its public system. Qatar’s Ministry provides a Compulsory Education Platform for children who are not registered in an educational system. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry publishes its own school admission and electronic learning services. These are reasons to check the relevant authority directly rather than assume that one regional rule applies everywhere.

Build the plan in four layers

1. Local status: residence, age, current enrolment, transfer documents and the authority responsible for the child.
2. Academic pathway: current level, subjects, intended qualification and future school or university destination.
3. Delivery: Gulf time zone, teacher availability, live-class frequency, independent work and feedback.
4. Assessment: coursework, practical requirements, approved examination venue, entry series, deadlines and fees.

Time-zone planning that works

Ask for a sample weekly timetable in the family’s local time. Mark live lessons, tutorials, independent study and submission deadlines. If the family travels frequently, agree how absences, recordings and teacher feedback work before enrolment.

For one-to-one learning, verify exactly which sessions are individual. A personalised plan can help a learner who needs a different pace, but the family still needs predictable contact hours and measurable progress.

Plan examinations early

International learning does not mean every assessment can be completed from home. Pearson’s official directory lets families search for international centres, but the directory notes that its list is not complete. A centre must still confirm that it accepts the candidate, qualification, subjects and components for the required series.

Before paying tuition or entry fees, obtain written confirmation of the exam board, specification, subject codes, venue, series, deadlines and any access arrangements. This is especially important when a family expects to move countries during the programme.
